Devika--the iris is named for the fuzzy area on it's outer petals that resembles a "beard"--at least to the person who named it! You can see it at the bottom center of the photo--an orange fuzzy spot.
Thanks, I am addicted to that lighting...

oh enchanting, such a beauty...and I agree with Dev about 'bearded iris' what a masculine intonnation to this glorious, glorious flower...why not flowing Iris, or tourniquet Iris, or anything but a beard lol...nevertheless, what ever it's called, you're photographed it majestically, bravo sweet Bird :)
