wings
Humans
are meant
to have wings
have you noticed
when your arms fold in
to cover your chest
somehow
your body is still
balanced
it's the weight
of your wings
solid with feathers
soft white, rippled with
shadows
your shoulders know
the effortless lift
to the sky
and have you noticed
that the smoke
is thicker
since the wind has risen
tell me
are you finished with
the fire
if your heart
can let go
your wings are waiting
are meant
to have wings
have you noticed
when your arms fold in
to cover your chest
somehow
your body is still
balanced
it's the weight
of your wings
solid with feathers
soft white, rippled with
shadows
your shoulders know
the effortless lift
to the sky
and have you noticed
that the smoke
is thicker
since the wind has risen
tell me
are you finished with
the fire
if your heart
can let go
your wings are waiting

Hi dear D--just a note to say I rewrote this poem a little since last night...glad you came by when you did-- see you again soon!
Holding back my wings is what broke me...how sensational fireb, you are a wonderful soul :)
Lorraine--I hope you are already using your wings to mend all the broken pieces...and of course, we can help each other to heal! Thanks for the dynamic comment!
Yeah, my dear bird
this is better, given its always better to fly in herds than alone :))
And there -- its always a sharing, and heart has to let go :)
the only problem is I can't let the fire in me burn out!
but then I can soon be water too :))
what I do not know is -- if there's anything left in me as flesh and blood! :)
love,
devika
I only saw the picture - now I've read the poem. And as I've said before - gee I hope you are publishing somewhere - submit your work. It's exquisite.
Thank you so much, Bird! I do have in the back of my mind the intention of publishing--when the right time comes, there will be a way. It is not easy to make the contacts, though--amd I think I have to progress a bit more in my work to be ready...thanks for the nudge, I needed that!
So touching!
So beautiful!
I loved this poem!

...if your heart
can let go
your wings are waiting
to rech the clouds...
"Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
and never stops at all." - Emily Dickenson
Big hugs, dear Firebird!
Devika dear--we must carry our fire inside us when we fly--way above the smoky fires of the earth...
Margie--and I loved your comment!
...So glad to see you--
Krystyna--yes, I love that poem by Dickinson, too! Thanks for flying by to visit me...come back soon!
Oh sure, my bird
and when I have a word from you, I feel so relaxed :)
An understanding friend make a heaven of difference,
if one has such a friend, one needs no mirror they say :)
love,
devika
can't repair what's broken, but no one says I can't sprout new wings, your gentleness and beautiful poerty help me....
Oh my Firebird this is exquisitely written. The last lines are most profound - I love this one.
Devika--I am so glad you feel that way, and I treasure a rare friend who can say such beautiful things...
Lorraine--if I can help in even a small way for you to heal and grow forwards, I will be happy indeed!
Janice--thank you for appreciating what I am trying to say--it makes it all worth it!
You know how much you mean to me, my dear. :)
love,
devika

it's the weight
of your wings
