when we were jelly
no question, then
we spent our days
rolling bonelessly
into hollows
of dunes
escaping the hungry
lips
of the sea
then, when
you split me in two
it tickled
like those stray feathers
shed
by the newly molting sun
in half-formed nights
of crystallizing light
our mouths were still too soft
to speak
and our hearts so quiet
that the stars
were as thunder
we spent our days
rolling bonelessly
into hollows
of dunes
escaping the hungry
lips
of the sea
then, when
you split me in two
it tickled
like those stray feathers
shed
by the newly molting sun
in half-formed nights
of crystallizing light
our mouths were still too soft
to speak
and our hearts so quiet
that the stars
were as thunder

Stark and sudden expression of that kind of deep quiet. Really made the stars kind of jump out in my mind.
Thanks, Paul--I appreciate your liking that phrase--great to have your comment!
What line in here isn't amazingly crafted. I think maybe our mouths should be so soft again, and all we wanted to do was catch the stray feathers of the sun. A magical piece of writing!!
Pat--you truly made my day with your comment! Thanks for stopping by with a piece of sunshine...
Youse guys eat grits??? Growing up we had em for supper with fish. Is it warming up way up yonder?
firebird, chills of joy rippled through me reading this. your words and beauty are astounding. thank you, big hugs, snowsparkle
Pat--Fish and grits sounds quite yummy! I've seen it on the menu at the local Caribbean restaurant in Brooklyn...but I'm still partial to grits and eggs...
Today was starting to feel like Spring, FINALLY! The daffodils are starting, along with crocuses and other little gems...
Ss--Gosh, if I can cause "chills of joy" in anyone, that makes it all worthwhile--especially when it's you! And your comments are always to die for...!
rolling bonelessly
Many lovely images in this!
mb--always a treat to have you stop by...thanks always!
When we melt and lose our own outline, we can see outside ourselves.

mermaid--Wow, what a wonderfully poetic and insightful comment!
Wish I had thought of that myself...thanks so much!
