cat speaks

pale one,
be still and watch

how I create the night

this purring darkness
that molds itself to my fur
body against body

see how the wind
slows
to rub against me

until the sway of my ribs
sets it rippling

be still and watch

how I travel
forward into last night's self
returning home

when I exhale, it is
the night that exits

can you follow me

do you want a piece of the dark
to call your own

Yes, I don't mind owning a piece of darkness...after reading this, my bird :)

As always, I wonder how words and ideas evolve....good poem, dear :)

Lorraine--I love when your comments make me feel that you really understand what I was trying to express--it makes my day!

Devika--I wonder too--this one started with a feeling of being like a cat and having no fear of setting out in the dark--but of course the cat must be the one to tell the story...Thanks for the comment--it makes me think!

I don't understand the psyche of cats....may be Lorraine does...she has three cats :)

as for me, three things i am afraid of darkness, lightning and snakes...of which darkness is the most...after reading it somehow i thought darkness was okay :)

Devika--that is exactly what my purpose was in writing the poem, I am so happy you feel that way! I think that feeling uneasy in darkness is natural for humans, but sometimes the danger is not real.

I personally am fond of snakes, I did write a poem about them once--but I don't have much experience with them--
cats I am very familiar with.

Lightning is quite beautiful and grand, but not for getting close to--OK for admiring from indoors! I wonder if you would be afraid of it without the thunder?

I am afraid of just lightning....By the time it thunders I am normal :))

You fond of snakes -- By God!! My place has a lot of it...At my first workplace there was a scheme -Rs.100 for anyone who kills an ordinary and Rs. 250 for venomous snakes...there were Cobras, a lot many in the compound!

My lose my breath if I see one! Have had that many times...But I watch them sometimes on Discovery channel! :)

Devika dear--thanks for stopping by , I know you are busy also! I simply do not have any brain power left after all the demands of my job, they are putting me to learn so many new tasks, I can barely sleep, my mind won't shut off...

I will come back at the first chance I get, I promise!
