the road home

when I laughed
and the wind blew you upward
out of your shoes

when you turned
surprised by the flicker
of a falling twig

by the soft notes of a river

when your feet
suddenly bare
touched the grass

why were you ashamed
of not knowing
that the road home

is just a turn of the head

This is delightful, passionate, whimsical, yet very practical, open... wonderful. And very much you. What a great note to start the new year with! I'm so glad I get to read your poems, Firebird. Thanks.

rethabile--I so much appreciate your visiting and leaving your generous comment!

I purchased a World Atlas this weekend, as I am too ignorant of geography--today I am one country richer--having learned of Lesotho! It seems to be a place well worth getting to know...as is your African poetry community.

Please come and visit again any time!

mb--I am bowled over by your stunning adjectives, they truly touch my heart! Thank you so much for getting MY new year started on a happy note!
Friends like you are priceless...

(and you would notice the practical side of the poem--yes, it was meant that way)
