world of shadows
looking in hunger
down to a world
of shadows
where sunlight
squirms and slithers
through fingers of moss
I dive from the sky
in darkness that splinters me
into a thousand sparks
and my eyes when I wake
have lids that close
to velvet blackness
my new heart
lights its caverns
with fire
down to a world
of shadows
where sunlight
squirms and slithers
through fingers of moss
I dive from the sky
in darkness that splinters me
into a thousand sparks
and my eyes when I wake
have lids that close
to velvet blackness
my new heart
lights its caverns
with fire

The world behind closed eyes and what we actually see are not so different. You capture the two shadows running alongside each other, parallel worlds that meet here.
I find this a slightly elusive, yet fascinating poem, playing with images of light and dark, of the natural world... but also as metaphor.
mermaid--thanks for your insight--it's always a trip to read your comments!
mb--yes, you're right about the metaphor--
good to get your generous feedback as always...thanks
