I googled "Chandler's boiling alcohol", now I understand--he was refering to the smell in an orchid greenhouse--but the orchid show had a delightful flowery smell, and not at all strong! Thanks, Suzanne, for the reference!

Well, I really didn't like orchids at all, maybe I was was too much impressed by Chandler's 'boiling alcohol', but you are going to cure my dislike.
