rabbit dreams

if I could have wishes
mine would float
down a river of salt

where each drop
drifting onto my skin
has the scent of the sea

my wishes like waves
would splash and spray
on the wood of my boat

my ears flying northward
my chest swelling southward
vibrating into the wind

while seagulls
above my cargo of carrots
would circle and hover

waiting to hear
the new solid notes
of my song

I know the feeling - the sense of half merging into the wider world, especially the natural world. Big theme with Walt Whitman.

Thank you, percy, cora, and mb, for stopping here and being so kind to comment!
Percy--I'm honored, not only by your presence, but by your mention of Whitman on my lowly blog! As I recall (being a big fan of his) he is stellar in his ability to make the language sing, but a bit casual with his form--do you approve?

I read the poem without reading the title, and was mystified by the cargo of carrots! But in a good way.

Some great imagery here.

Playful, and charming is the word! You never let the spell break, either.

Hi Firebird! This is so lovely! Wonderful images. I especially love "each drop...has the scent of the sea" and "ears flying northward/my chest swelling southward". This is brilliant.

Lyrical, lovely. I had no idea the journey I'd take, so willingly!
